Mary Ann Ball married Richard Grantham, Johnson Co AR, on 6 Jul 1856, at the home of Delitha Hays who is presumed to be her grandmother. Mary Ann's parents are unknown and no marriage record of Hays/Ball has been found. In 1850, Mary Ann was said to have been born in Tennessee, but her sister, about two years younger was born in Mississippi.

Grantham of Johnson County aged 20 years to Mary Ann Bauls of said County aged 18 years and then and there by the authority in me by law, did pronounce them to be husband and wife.

1860, Johnson Co AR, Richard's parents were living in Pittsburg Township. That would explain how Richard met Mary Ann Ball after the Hays families had moved to Arkansas from Mississippi.

A Richard & Mary A. Grantham are found in McLennan Co, TX in 1900 - similar ages but wrong birth places - and this Richard was still living with his wife Mary in 1910. this is a very different couple.


Although there were several children - only two, William & Martha, lived long enough to marry and William died at age 35, after the birth of only one son.

Listing on FindAGrave stated Mary Ann was born 17 Mar 1838, died 1912 in Graham, Carter Co, OK. Buried Green Hill Cemetery, Davis, Murray Co, OK - marker lost. Note for Richard Alexander Grantham - b. 31 Jan 1836, Livingston Parish, LA, died 1902, Davis, Murray Co, OK. Also believed buried Green Hill Cemetery - no marker.

Richard's parents don't seem to be buried in the same cemetery. Listed on FindAGrave.com

Sarah Grantham, b. 11 Mar 1814, d. 17 Jun 1898, is apparently buried Kendall Cemetery, Hartman, Johnson Co, next to a daughter. There is a common stone, but the daughter's stone doesn't have a death date, just the birth: N. A. McKenney, April 2 1852.
