Marmaduke Beckwith Morton

Marmaduke attended Bethel College in Russellville beginning with the first year of its existence. When he was 14 he left school and worked in the office of the clerk of the County Court. During the Civil War he looked after his mother and then was engaged in merchandising. He travel 15 years for a wholesale hardware establishment in Louisville. From 1890-1894 he was a deputy sheriff of Logan Co and was elected Clerk of County Court in Nov 1894. Mr. Morton joined the Baptist Church in 1860 and is a master Mason.

Marmaduke and Virginia were first cousins.
