Dec 1700. John Petts and others, inhabitants of Quamscott Pattent (Squamscott), N. H. petitioned for incorporation as a town. They had paid taxes sometimes in Hampton, sometimes in Exeter. They attended church in Exeter although some lived six miles away. The petition was renewed 10 Jan 1715/16 [New Hampshire Provincial Papers, Vol. 3, 406 and 9, 779.

5 Apr 1706 [DB9, p.581) John Petts of Quamscott bought 11 acres of Thomas Read, Sr., bounded by Nathaniel Wright and Bradstreet Wiggins.
3 Apr 1713 (DB12, p.46) John Petts bought 74 acres of Jonathan Wiggin, bounded by James Doughty. Wit: Thomas Tomms & John Sinkler
3 Apr 1713 (DB9, p.583) John sold the land bought of Read to Jonathan Wiggin.
23 Sep 1723 (DB13, p.417) John Petts of Stratham (Sqamscott having been incorported) and wife Abigail, sold 30 acres to John Avery.
3 Apr 1724 (DB18, p.12) John Petts of Stratham and wife Abigail, sold 30 acres with houses and barns to Noah Barker, abutting Noah Barker and John Searl. Wit: William French, Benjamin Hoeg and Thomas Rape.

John Petts was one of the earliest settlers on a tract of land in Oct 1727, which became incorporated as Townsend, MA in 1732.

Appraisers of his estate were sworn, 3 Sep 1756, Townsend. Abigail died before 13 Dec 1762.

Children named in the settlement of John Petts estate were John Jr., eldest son, born ca 1713, according to his gravestone; Jonathan, b. 15 Oct 1727 at Townsend; David, dec'd who had left heirs: Sarah, who had married Avery; Abigail; and Anna.
The names of all the children of John Petts were repeated in the names of the children of Sarah & Robert Avery.

1762 [DB 108,p.200] The rights of the widow's thirds were given to on Jonathan (apparently Abigial now dead) Grantors were John Patt and Sarah Avery, both of Townsend, Thomas Laughton of Pepperall. Deed was signed by Abigail Patt, John Patt, Bathsheba Patt, Sarah Avery, Thomas Laughton, Abigail Laughton, Samuel Dix, and Elizabeth Patt. (Note: Bathsheba was wife of John)
