ANDREW Peterson

(5 May 1750 - Abt 1792)

Researcher and descendant Jeanne Geake found the birth of an Andrew Peterson as 5 May 1750 in Canterbury, Windham, CT, son of John & Jemima Peterson. It may or may not be the same man - but probably not given that the Andrew Peterson born to John & Jemima appears to have died 15 Feb 1763.
His year of birth given in the family Bible as 1769 is impossible given his marriage date and the births of children, and has to be an error so no help there, but it does state he was born in Canterbury. Possibly the year given in the Bible was meant to be 1749. However, it is clearly written. He died about 1792.

Another entry in the Canterbury records is the death of the widow Peterson, 15 Feb 1763. Filed at Hartford, CT, 8 Mar 1763 - Jabez Fitch Jr. of Canterbury, Windham County posted bond for administration of the estate of Jemima Peterson. John Fitch was surety.
8 Apr 1763, Nathan Williams & Samuel Adams, Jr. took the inventory consisting of bedding, clothing and dishes.

There is a single Revolutionary War Muster Card which lists Andrew Peterson as having served in the 3rd CT Regiment, commanded by Colo. Sam B. Webb. He deserted from Camp Connecticut, 16 Aug 1782. The 3rd Regt had been the 2nd and 9th Regiments. Said to be from Tolland, CT, then in Windham County.

The family Bible, dated 1848, belonged to Jane Silver Patterson, daughter of Jemima Peterson & Alexander Simpson Silver and granddaughter of Andrew & Mehitabel.
Places given for the births of the children seem strange [they must have moved around a lot] but that is how they are recorded in the Bible which was dated some years after the events. The page is all written in the same hand. Jemima Peterson Silver, daughter of Andrew & Mehitabel, and Jane Silver's mother, lived until 1865 and perhaps would have been the source of the information.

The record of Andrew and Mehitable's marriage is in the records of the Amenia Presbyterian Church, Wassaic from a published transcript by Arthur Kelly of Kinship.
