George T. Walters
(Abt 1794 - Aft 1875)
George T. has said to have never married; however, there was a white female over the age of 21 in his household in Shelby Co AL in 1820. He was in TX by December of 1835 when he was awarded Certificate #21 for 1 League & 1 Labor of land. He first appeared on the tax list of Nacogdoches Co TX in 1837.
In March of 1836, George joined Capt Bryant's cavalry company of Col. Cleveland's Regt & also served in Capt Collin's Co in 1836. He received Bounty Warrant #1790 for 320 acres of land. A. C. Walters & G. L. Ramsdale of Hood Co TX affirmed his service in the Texas War.
In 1850, George was in Henderson Co TX, age 56, b. GA. Also in the same household was Susan Walters, 65, b. SC, William S. Wolf, 18 & b. TN, and Elizabeth Wolf, 13, b. AR. It would appear that Susan might be a Walters widow with two of her grandchildren living with her.
George is thought to be buried in an unmarked grave in Hood Co TX. there is a book A TEXAS SCRAP-BOOK, written in 1875 by D.W.C. Baker, that lists a George T. Walters, age 80, as a resident of Hood Co TX in 1875.
