Stephen Sampson's father was likely the Francis Samson whose will is records in Goochland DB 4, p.499. Dated 16 Jan 1739; probate 29 Mar 1745. "To my only son, Stephen Samson, 1 shilling." Names dau: Priscilla New, Anna Fuquay, Sarah Maxey, Judith Crouch, each 1 shilling. Remainder to wife [not named]. Exec: Wife & Stephen Samson. Wit: Joseph Fuquay, Nicholas Barbosa, Benjamin Strange.

Stephen's mother was Bridget Sampson. Her will is in Goochland DB 7, p.157. Dated 3 Mar 1757; probate 17 May 1757. Bequests to Richard Crouch, Judith Sampson, daughter of Stephen Sampson. John Maxy, Joseph Fuqua, William New, and Sampson Woodall each 1sh. Son Stephen Sampson all the remainder. Wit: Stoakes McCaul, Milner Redford, Samuel Smith Sampson.

However, there appears to be another Stephen Sampson who could have been the father as well - he could be a brother to the above Francis. His will is in DB 9, p.131. 17 Feb 1766; probate 15 Mar 1768. His wife was Mary. Sons Stephen, Charles & Richard; daughter Elizabeth. Exec: Wife Mary, Son Charles, William Maddox & Thomas Pleasants. Wit: Thos. Pleasants, Edward Redford & Robert Pleasants. His son Charles' will is in DB 11, p.79. Written 1 Nov 1775, probate 19 Feb 1776. Son Archibald - land purchased of David Walker & 400 acres on Randolph Crk in Buckingham Co inherited in right of wife Ann in the will of Thomas Porter dec'd of Cumberland Co which remains undivided. Wife Ann is pregnant. Daughter Elizabeth Barbara Sampson. Exec: John Guerrant, Thomas Hatcher & brother Stephen Sampson. Wit: Alexander Fowler, Richard Sampson, and John Woodson.
