John Watson

( - Abt 1750)

Research of Tony Johnson regarding the Meherrin River location of the family of Michael Johnson - this was the only reference found - apparently the Johnsons themselves did not have land on the Meherrin River:
1728 John Watson brother of Sarah Watson who is the wife of Michael Johnson patented 280 acres on S. Side of Great Creek off Meherin River.

John's will was written in 1749 and recorded 2 Apr 1750 in Henrico Co.
"Johnson-Hutcheson" from files of Stephen M. Lawson.

He left personal property and 300 acres "where Thomas Merritt lived" to William Patman. He left 200 acres adj. David Adkins (sic) to Watson Patman. John Watson left personal property and 353 acres in Goochland County joining Joseph Pease and Benjamin Woodson to Morris Baumfield.
He did not state relationships to any of the above. He did, however, leave 400 acres next to Robert Sharp to each of his daughters Susanna and Elizabeth Watson. He left 541 acres and personal property to wife Martha. His executors were his wife Martha, William Patman and Nathaniel Bacon. Witnesses were Nathanial Bacon, Thomas Thorp, and William Patman. Recorded 2 April 1750. (PAGE 40 & 42 Colonial Wills of Henrico County, Va. Part Two 1737-1781 by Benjamin B. Weisiger III.)
In addition to this, the reference to the will of William Patman is found on page 76 of the same book. Feb. Court 1767 Will of William Patman presented by Sarah Patman and Thomas Thorp, and proved by witnesses: James Allen, Isham Allen, and Christian Allen, Sec. On page 116 same book, another reference to the will appears when his wife died and her inheritance from him is divided among his five children: Agnes Thorp, wife of Thomas Thorp; Elizabeth Morris, wife of William Morris; Sarah Freeman, wife of Gideon Freeman; Mary Alen (sic) Patman; and Susanna Patman, wife of John Sutton Farrar. Witnesses: William Allen Burton, Mathew Hopson, James Drake.
