Married name was Burgess. He was William Burgess, son of Thomas.

Thomas Burgess was in Pittsylvania Co by 1771, they had lived in Orange Co VA, and also Halifax Co. Thomas first appeared in Orange Co in Jun of 1736 when Edward Burgess, orphan, was bound to Thomas to learn the carpentry trade. Appraisers were also appointed for the estate of Charles Burges, deceased on 20 May 1735. Relationships are unknown. Thomas purchased land in Orange Co on 4 Jun 1735 - 100 acres from James Fidler in St. Marks Parish, Orange Co. Mary, wife of Thomas, released dower for a deed in Orange Co on 29 Mar 1749.

23 Oct 1760 Thomas Burgess of St. Thomas Parish, Orange Co, sold 333 acres on branches of Pamunkey River, land where Timothy Burgess lately lived and was purchased from William Pratt by deed 26 Mar 1747, the other 200 acres part of 400 acres puchased of Daniel White, 25 Sep 1746 [land of Robert Holderness?] to Timothy Burgess for natural love and fatherly affection.

31 Aug 1765 Thomas Burgess of Orange Co, sold 123 acres, also slaves, livestock, furniture, tools, etc. [either moving or this was a mortgage deed]

13 Jun 1780 Thomas Burgess purchased 92 acres on the North Fork of Freedling in Pittsylvania Co.

15 Feb 1782 Theoderick Carter of Antrim Parish, Halifax Co sold 740 acres in Pittsylvania Co on Sweetings fork of Sandy Crk adj lands of Thomas Chambers, Robert Williams, Richard Kerby, and himself, to Thomas Burgess, Senr of Camden Parish, Pittsylvania Co for 1000£.
