" William Ward of Wallingford, b. in Killingworth, CT., Oct 8, 1678, d. in Wallingford, Dec. 19, 1767; captain during colonial wars, justice of peace, deputy to Gen. Court many times (m. Lettice Beach, b. Dec. 24, 1679, dau of John Jr. of Stratford, son of the settler John Beach); son of Andrew Ward Jr, b. 1647, probably at Fairfield, CT., removed to Killingworth, CT (m. Tryal, dau. of John Meiggs of Guilford, who on the night of May 12, 1661, rode on horseback to New Haven to notify Rev. John Davenport that agens of the king were seeking for the regicides then at his house; son of Andrew Ward, the settler, who came over with Winthrop in 1630 and settled in Watertown, Mass., was appointed by the General Court of the Bay Colony, one of the commissioners to govern the people at Connecticut, 1636, one of the five worthies who declared was on the Pequots, magistrate, d. at Fairfield, 1659 (m. Hester Sherman, dau. of Edmond and Joan)
