Richard "Red" R. Blanchette, 76, formerly of Marinette, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc. He was born on September 29, 1932, to the late Victor and Sadie (Therriault) Blanchette in Marinette. Richard graduated from Marinette High School in 1956 and went on to serve his country in the Navy during the Korean War. 
He married Ester Bruette on December 26, 1959. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1975. He graduated from the Commercial Trades Institute with a degree in Building Construction and went on to own and operate Blanchette Construction for 25 years until retiring in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching WWII movies and talking about his years in the navy. He was a life member of the Menominee VFW Post 1887.
Red is survived by four sisters, Ethel Leblanc of Wausaukee, Elizabeth (Donald) Mullins of Marinette, Shirley Konell of Two Rivers, and Janet Corey of Ingalls, Mich. Red is further survived by his former wife, Sally Blanchette of Marinette; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ester, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy Lynn; two stepsons, Jerry and James Everard; a brother; two sisters; and an infant brother, James.
Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Sunday, January 11, 2009, from 1 p.m. until 3:50 p.m. The 20 Year Club and the VFW will provide joint military honors at 3:50 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
