Census (family)

Enumerated with this family were Clarence La Plant, age 30, a property maintenance man for a chick hatchery; his wife, Thyra, age 23; and children: Lee, age 8, and Robert, age 2. (Thyra seems too young to be the mother of Lee. Did Clarence have a previous marriage?)

Death

The Clarence Oliver LaPlant who died in California in 1995 seem to match the one born to Edward LaPlant and Josephine Leannah in every way -- with one caveat. The record in the California Death Index gives his mother's maiden name as Belanger, not Leannah. Because the other information matches so well, and because I have not been able to find another Clarence LaPlant who fits better, I have concluded that the name "Belanger" on the record was an error. Clarence's mother died when he was an infant; he certainly did not remember her. Also, he was living very far from his birthplace and was eighty-five years old, making it unsurprising that whoever the informant was might have been mistaken about the mother's maiden name.
