Felix WOUTERS

(2 Aug 1848 - 3 Jul 1907)

Nettie Wauters, age 20 at the time, was living with the family of Joseph and Justine Lurquin at the time of the 1905 Wisconsin State Census. She was listed as Joseph's sister-in-law. The birth record of Mary Elisabeth Lurquin, the first child of Joseph and Justine, indicates that Justine's maiden name was Wauters. We can therefore reasonably conclude that Netty was Justine's sister. On the 1900 census, we see Joseph and Justine living among a number of Flemish Belgian families (many of them working as gardeners) and quite close to the family of Felix Wouters, a widower. Among the children enumerated with him is Nettie Wouters, age 15 -- presumable the same Nettie who would be residing with Joseph and Justine in 1905. Also, another child of Felix's listed on the 1900 census was Julius Wouters, age 10. The 1910 census shows a Jules Wouters, age 20, boarding with the family of Joseph and Justine Lurquin -- showing another link between Justine Wouters Lurquin and the family of Felix Wouters. He was still living with them in 1920 and 1930, according to those censuses, on which he was explicitly described as Joseph's brother-in-law. Therefore, the evidence leads me to conclude that Felix Wouters was the father of Justine Wouters Lurquin.
