Timothy Hopkins, in "The Kelloggs in the Old World and the New" (p. 77), paraphrases Gen. Notes, Goodwin, p. 329:
"William Whiting, 'gentleman,' one of the early settlers of Hartford, mentioned in the histories of this country as early as 1632 or '33. A man of education and wealth. He was one of the most respectable of the settlers in 1636 -- "one of the civil and religious Fathers of Connecticut,' etc. Treasurer of Colony, 1641, till death, 1647; magistrate."
