Ludwig Albrecht Wilhelm ILGEN
(15 Oct 1759 - 20 Aug 1823)
Obituary of Ludwig Albrecht Wilhelm Ilgen, from the Reading Adler (Reading, PA), dated 9 September 1823:
Funeral. The Reverend Ludwig Albrecht Wilhelm Figen passed away on the 20th of last August at the parsonage near Aaronsburg in Center County, at the age of 63 years, 10 months and 5 days. He was the Lutheran pastor for the congregation of Aaronsburg and its neighborhood for nearly 23 years, during which time he earned the affection and respect of all the members of his congregation through his love and sincere Christian instruction and by his exemplary Christian conduct. On that 20th of August, the Lord of the Vineyard gathered him to Himself gently and painlessly by a stroke or seizure, unto his Perfect Vineyard. The remains he left behind were transported on the 22nd to the cemetery of the Lutheran church in Aaronsburg, accompanied by an extraordinarily large company of mourners. There, the reverend pastors Schindel and Fries delivered fitting and moving words on Hebrews 13, verse 7, “Think upon your teachers, those who have spoken the word of God; observe their purposes and imitate the example of their faith.” By this sudden demise, those he leaves behind, a widow and seven children, have lost a beloved husband and father; and six congregations have lost their faithful pastor.
The inscription on his headstone reads:
