Nellie C. HUMISTON
(Oct 1875 - 1964)
"Nellie Humiston Hobden was born in October of 1875 in Iowa. Her parents were Alonzo Humiston and Orcelia "Celia" Hannah Brown Humiston. She was the youngest of their 3 children.
In 1880 when she was 5 years old her family lived in Richland, Tama County, Iowa. Sadly when she was 17 years old her mother died of cancer on 26 August 1893. She continued to live with her father & the 1900 census shows them living together in Scranton, Green County Iowa.
On 18 September 1902 Nellie married Joseph E. Hobden in Green County, Iowa. It appears that they lived in that county and eventually moved to Arriba, Lincoln County, Colorado as Nellie's father, Alonzo Humiston passed away at their home in Arriba on 26 August 1909.
On 30 June 1910 Nellie & Joseph's only child, Jesse Wayne Hobden was born in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa. I assume that they were traveling when he was born as the 1910 Census also listed their home as Arriba, Colorado.
They lived in Colorado Springs, El Paso County Colorado in 1920 and then back to Arriba, Colorado in 1930 and then in 1942 it appears that Nellie & Joseph were again living in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Nellie's husband, Joseph, passed away in 1947. Nellie lived for many more years and passed away at age 89 in 1964. She was survived by her son, Jesse Wayne Hobden and her 6 grandchildren.
Nellie was a Mayflower descendant."
