Birth

The 1894 and 1900 censuses differ as to her birth date. If the 1900 census date (May 1861) were correct, it would have made her less than twelve years old at the time of her marriage. The date given in the 1894 census, 1859, still makes her less than fourteen at marriage, but this is certainly more likely than the later year. The 1870 Census gives her age as 13 -- which is certainly the most likely to be correct, both because of the closer proximity to her birth year and because it would put her age at marriage closer to 16. This 1870 Census also indicates that she was born in Belgium, not Wisconsin.
