Martha Myrtle DOUCETTE

(Aug 1889 - )

The following is my rationale for believing that Myrtle Duquette was the same person as Martha Doucette: Myrtle Duquette, wife of Louis Champeau, did not have children of her own, but the 1920 Census shows Louis and Myrtle living with a two-year-old niece, named Florence VandenBush. As of the 1930 Census, Louis and Myrtle seem to have separated, but Florence was still living with her aunt, and was then 12 years old. Further research has shown that Florence was the daughter of Melinda Doucette. One of Melinda's sisters, Lily, married Willard Champeau, the brother of Louis Champeau. Lilly also used the surname Duquette. Since Florence was the niece of Lilly Doucette/Duquette and also the niece of Myrtle Duquette, it's reasonable to assume that Myrtle Duquette was a sister of Melinda and Lily, and that she also used the surname of Doucette. The trouble is that the 1900 Census does not show a Myrtle in this family. Martha is the one whose age would match Myrtle, so I am concluding that Martha and Myrtle were probably the same person.
