Adele Virginia "Hattie" DELFORGE

I initially though that Hattie Delforge was the first wife of Frank Van Kessel and that Adele was the second wife. Earlier records all seem to refer to her as Hattie, then abruptly change to Adele with the 1920 Census. Hattie is usually a nickname for Harriet, not for Adele. The 1930 Census calls her "Adele V. Van Kessel," suggesting that her middle name was not Harriet. In any case, I now believe Hattie and Adele to be the same person. The database "Wisconsin, Births and Christenings Index, 1826-1908" reports that the parents of the first child, Earl, were Frank J. Vankessel and Adele Delforge.

Enumerated with this family were Frank Van Kessel, age 34, a saloon keeper; his wife, Hattie, age 34; and children: Earl, age 7; Dale, age 4; and Adele, age 4. Hattie is reported to have had four children, all of whom were still living -- yet only four children are listed with the family. A mistake? Marian was about two years old at the time, but she was not included with the family. Frank and Hattie had been married for eight years.

Enumerated with this family were Frank Van Kessel, age 44; his wife, Adelle, age 45; and children: Earle, age 16; Dale, age 14; Adelle, age 14; and Marion, age 12. Frank is reported to have no occupation -- probably because he had been a saloon keeper, and Prohibition was just beginning. This is the first time I see Hattie called Adelle. Is it indeed Hattie, or a second wife?
