Both versions of this record (Ancestry/Drouin and FamilySearch) refer to Marie Joseph and use feminine verb endings. However, the Drouin record uses the word "fils", and the FamilySearch record has "fille" crossed out and replaced with "fils." I do believe this to be the baptismal record for my ancestor, Joseph Champoux, as per Tanguay, but to be safe, I am also recording the baptism of a girl on this date. Only one is correct.

Death

This burial record is confusing for several reasons. First and foremost, it states that this Joseph Champoux was the husband of Marie Théotiste Rivard. It also states that Joseph was 90 years old at the time of his death. Théotiste was in fact married to Louis Champoux, who would have been only 54 years old at this time. I think that her name was incorrectly given as the wife of the deceased; more likely she was the daughter-in-law. Joseph père would have been closer to eighty years old by my reckoning, but as I explain in the general note, there is some question about that birth date as well. Perhaps he was ten years older; that would put him more in line with the age of his wife. In any case, the mention of Marie Théotiste Rivard does place Joseph in the Jolicoeur branch of the Champoux family, rather than the Saint-Païr branch, which also had descendents in the Baie-du-Febvre area at this time.
