In 1941, he sent a postcard to his Uncle Heinie Lurquin (my grandfather), who was stationed at Camp Livingston, Louisiana (prior to Pearl Harbor):
"Please do a little favor. Send me some moss and a pine cone. The family is fine. Uncle George is better. School is not bad. How are you? I am o.k. Love, David Beno. P.S. Please hurry. My teacher wants it."
