Individual Details
Ludwig (Louis) DEUSTER
(13 May 1818 - 4 May 1882)
Blens is near the town of Nideggan, where the records are housed.
Occupations: Grocer and Miller
Ludwig came to America from Germany in 1844, along with three of his brothers, Henry, John Hubert, and Theodore. They were passengers on the "Belgique Harriet," which sailed from Antwerp to New York. Their mother also immigrated to the United States. They settled in an area south of Milwaukee which they called New Coeln. This was located in the Town of Lake, which is now a part of the suburb of Oak Creek. Ludwig and Anna were married at St. Stephens Church, on Howell Avenue near the present Mitchell Field (records destroyed in fire). The land for this church had been donated to the diocese by Ludwig's brother, John Hubert Deuster, in 1847. In 1849, Ludwig and Anna Elisabeth sold their property in New Coeln, and moved to Racine, where he worked as a grocer. In 1855, they moved to the Town of Scott, northeast of Green Bay, along with Anna Elisabeth's mother and brother. From this time on, Ludwig (now called Louis) worked as a miller. He later moved to Preble, and then to Green Bay. (All info from Dorothy Beno Lutomski and Mary Ann Lurquin Defnet's "Lurquin Addition: A Lurquin-Deuster Genealogy" (1978) -- see pages 23-30.
