Sally Jean WOLLER
(14 Oct 1946 - 11 Feb 2021)
Obituary of Sally Lurquin:
Sally Jean Lurquin (Woller) 74, entered heaven’s gates unexpectedly in typical “Sal” fashion, resting her eyes in the early hours of February 11th, 2021. A lifelong Wisconsinite, she was born in Merrill, WI on October 14, 1946. Her family soon relocated to Green Bay to find post-war work. One of the premier baby boomers, she experienced life differently, but as a child she always said she enjoyed the taste of the Iodine tablets her teachers would give her, even admitting to sneaking an extra if she could. Growing up in a large household, Sally knew there was a life outside of her parent’s house on Broadway.
While standing up for a wedding at age 15 she met a handsome 26-year-old military veteran and quickly fell in love. She embraced marriage to her late husband, James B. Lurquin (Jim) on June 12th, 1965 in Green Bay, WI. Adamant she would not have children for at least one year after marriage, she made a bet with a fellow relative for a case of beer. Sally quickly lost the bet on May 25, 1966 when her first child and only son, Charles (Chuck) was born. Sally now wanted a daughter, and she got her wish on February 22nd, 1968 when she welcomed her first daughter, Lynn. Busting at the seams, Sally and Jim moved to De Pere, WI shortly after having their third and final child, Amy, on June 2, 1971. She always wanted four children but would always say she was afraid she’d get another “chuck”.
On August 4, 1979, Sally became a widow at only 32 years of age after Jim succumbed to his battle with lung cancer. Sally worked hard to raise her three young children on her own while still finding fun in life. She met her life partner, William (Bill) Handler around 1981 through a family friend. Sally would go on to spend over 35 years with Bill until he preceded her into death in June 2019. To fill her home with the love she had lost Sally adopted two little Miniature Schnauzers named Cooper and Suki, but she just called them “the girls”.
Sally’s real passion for living was being a grandmother. Sally had five biological grandchildren, one adopted and dozens of people that called her “grandma sal”. She loved spending time with her grandchildren playing cards, berry picking, "bummin", and telling stories.
Over the years, Sally worked in the “Kotex” factory, Holiday Inn, and Rennes Health and Rehab specializing in housekeeping and laundry services before she retired. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, cooking, doing puzzles and being with her family. Going up to the “woods” was always her real joy. This is where she was born, where she spent the summer after her husband died, and where she watched her family grow into their own.
Sally will be remembered for her love for life, open personality, and giving heart. She is survived by her three children Chuck Lurquin of Lake Tomahawk, Wi, Lynn (Jeff) Marin of Florence, WI and Amy (Brad) Van Den Heuvel of Pulaski, WI. She is further survived by five grandchildren, James (Adalberto) Lurquin of Yuma, AZ, Taylor Lurquin of Kenosha, WI, Jeffree (Ashley) Jacobson of El Paso, TX, Heather (Nathan) Marin of Green Bay, WI and Jacob Van Den Heuvel of Pulaski, WI. She was greeted at heaven’s gates by her husband Jim, life partner Bill, granddaughter Harmony, her daughter in-law Shellie, a couple of siblings and her parents.
Visitation will be from 9:00AM until 10:45AM Thursday February 18, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, De Pere followed by a prayer service at 11:00AM with Dc. Mike Vander Bloomen officiating. Masks and social distancing will be required.
