Lane, Marvin Edwin
Marvin Edwin Lane, 85, Oconto, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, peacefully at his home with his family at his side, following an extended illness. He was born June 20, 1920, in Mattoon, Wis., to the late George and Mary (Artz) Lane. Marvin was an Oconto Senior High School graduate who participated in football. Marvin began serving in the United States Army Air Corps in 1943 as a B-17 Gunner during World War II. He also attained his pilot license after serving in the Army Air Corps, flying his own plane "The Red Barron". Marvin was a devoted member and past Commander of the American Legion Post #74, Oconto. He worked at the Lane & Sons Feed Mill and later was the proud successful business owner of the Badger Bowl bowling alley from which he retired in 1982. Marvin enjoyed many activities including golf, playing cards with family and friends, bowling and boating.
He enjoyed 64 wonderful years with his wife, Delores Marie Perrizo; they were married on Oct. 20, 1941, in Oconto at St. Joseph Catholic Church and have five children. Marvin's family includes his wife, Delores; sons, Michael (Mary Lou) Lane, Lena; Peter (Belinda) Lane, Oconto; daughters, Barbara (Francis) Doulet, De Pere; Mary Lane, Oconto; and Louise (Ken) Russell, Oconto. Marvin had 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Marion Lane, Oconto; and Gen Lane, Oconto.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Russell "Red" Lane.
Friends and family may call at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 121 Chicago St., Oconto, from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the funeral cortege leaves for church. At 11:45 a.m. prior to leaving for church the American Legion Jones-Modrow-Young Post #74 will perform military rites at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, with Father David C. Ruby officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice, Dr. Andrew Wentzel for his care and all health care providers involved with Marvin.
