Roy Ward LEWIS
(14 Nov 1938 - 23 Apr 2015)
Obituary, from Find-a-Grave memorial #145591509:
Roy Ward Lewis, age 76, of Pearson, WI passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 23, 2015. He was born in the Town of Evergreen on November 14, 1938 the son of Arthur and Hazel Marie (Bebeau) Lewis.
On May 18, 1958 he eloped with the love of his life, Mary Lu Fleischman. They soon moved to Sunny Vale, California and lived there until 1967. Together they built two of their homes.
He started work as a semi driver for his father and worked for numerous trucking companies in Wisconsin and California including having clearance for hauling missiles for Lockheed before starting his own trucking company with his brother, James. In 1974 he bought a dairy farm and started Roy’s Custom Combining. He returned to trucking before starting Lewis Sand and Gravel, Pearson which he operated with his son, Shane and grandson, Tylor until his retirement in 2011.
Growing up he was the family mechanic and stuntman. He taught his kids and others to drive by allowing all to use the homemade go karts, mini bikes and dune buggies.
Roy was not only father to his own children but to many nieces, nephews, their friends and foster children and any strays that came along. He loved teasing the deer and squirrels with all of his outrageous homemade feeders. A night out with him meant going to the nearest dump to watch the bears, and being up before it was “daylight in the swamp”.
He would always greet you with a nice big “Howdy” and always lent a helping hand and having had what was needed to get the job done. He had a love for planes, trains and automobiles (not the movie).
Roy would give up his favorite tree stand to any newcomer (even if it wasn’t his stand) and loved to fish with Mary Lu and family members on his beloved Rolling Stone Lake.
He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren and sharing all of his life stories with them and they’ve all grown to realize that their next destination was not really “over the next hill” or “just around the corner”
He was an avid reader and family documentarian recording all the family history on 8 mm and video.
Roy spent his last day surrounded by loved ones while watching hours of homemade family films and listening to Johnny Cash.
He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lu; daughters, Tina (John) Ronfeldt, Antigo and Melody (Don) Gryczkowski, Crandon; sons, Harlan (Ellen) Lewis, Antigo and Shane (Sheila) Lewis, Pearson; grandchildren, Terah (Jeff) Stege, Bethany (Andy) Bauknecht, Trad Ronfeldt (friend, Jeana), Jesse (Liza) Lewis, Ginny Lewis, (Fiance, Curtis), Kyle (Nicole) Lewis, Amanda Gryczkowski (friend, Robert), Eric Gryczkowski, Josh Lewis (partner, Kyle) Tylor Lewis (fiancé, Brooke), Amanda Lewis and Bobbi Lewis (friend, Jon), Further survived by thirteen great grandchildren, Brenden & Ethen Stege; Caden, Alonna & Deken Bauknecht; Dylan, Brianna, Ryder & Emmy Lou Lewis; Maddy & Deegan Sieghold and Parker and Ryhs Lewis; Sisters, Elaine (Gary) Monnot, Pearson; Dorothy Pascua, Puyallup, WA and Rita Garrett, Dallas, OR; brothers, Roger Lewis, Waupaca; James (Bonnie) Lewis, Bryant; Gerald (Florence) Lewis, Antigo and Buddy (Marian) Lewis, Parker, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Hazel Lewis; brother, Todd Lewis and sister, Marie (Lewis) Lobato; sister-in-law, Loraine Lewis.
Honoring his wishes, no formal services will be held. “Toodle Do”.
