Margaret “Peggy” Chatell, age 88 of South Rockwood, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the IHM Motherhouse.
Born February 2, 1926 in East Gary, Indiana, Peggy was the daughter of John & Catherine (MacDonald) MacNeil. She married the love of her life, Francis “Joe” Chatell on July 20, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockwood. Sadly he preceded her in death November 22, 1989. Peggy worked as a Nurse at Seaway Hospital for over 15 years, retiring in 1982. She was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church where she was the Funeral Luncheon Coordinator for 30 years.Peggy was also a member of the Rockwood Historical Society; was on the Berlin Township Water & Sewer Board for 18 years; member of the VFW Post 4230 Rock of Gibraltar Auxiliary; and volunteer for Mercy Memorial Hospice for 19 years.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her children Joseph Chatell of Ohio, Sharon Lorr of Canton, Esther Lizyness of South Rockwood and Susie (Rich) Burger of Monroe; 10 grandchildren: Shelly Lizyness, Stephanie Ammar, Jeff Lizyness, Kim Finney, Todd Burger, Darlene Kuphal, Brian Burger, Natasha Chatell, Derek Chatell and Samantha Chatell-Yount; as well as 15 great-grandchildren and a sister Mary (Larry) Kline of Trenton. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Cassandra Chatell; 6 brothers: Francis MacNeil, Alexander MacNeil, John MacNeil, Bernard MacNeil, Ambrose MacNeil and Joseph MacNeil; a sister Catherine Weidner and 3 sons-in-law.
Friends may call Saturday from 5pm until 9pm and Sunday from 12noon until 9pm at the Ford Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 23620 N. Huron River Dr., Rockwood. There will be a Rosary Service at 5pm Sunday with Deacon Scott LaForrest. Funeral services celebrating Peggy’s life will be Monday. She will lie in state from 9:30am until a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30am from St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Rockwood. Fr. James Rafferty, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery.
