Francis Dennis LANDRE

(Francis D. Landre) was born in Michigan, the son of Moses S and Clara F Landre. He was one of eight children born to Moses and Clara. His older brothers and sister were Joseph, Virginia, Lawrence, William W, Edward, and Clara L. He had a younger sister named Grace.
He was assigned to the Headquarters Squadron, 1st Composite Bomber Group, which was part of the 5th Bomber Command operating in the Pacific Theatre against the Japanese. He was co-pilot of a B-24 Liberator that disappeared on 19 July, 1944.
According to 380th Bomb Group Casualty Report, on 19 July 1944, CPT Robert W Tosch was the pilot of a B-24 Liberator, #42-40814 when the aircraft disappeared during a routine flight over the Owen Stanley mountains between Port Moresby and Nadzab. The plane was from the 5th Bomber Command Replacement Center.
All personnel were lost-presumed dead. Personnel included; CPT Robert Tosch-Pilot; 2LT M.C. Chandley Jr.-Passenger; SGT Alfred G Farrar-Passenger; 2LT John E Harris-Passenger; CPL William H Henry-Radio Operator; 2LT Francis D. Landre-Co Pilot; 2LT Robert S. 2LT Landre’s name appears on the Tablets of the Missing in the Manila American Cemetery, Manila Philippines.
