Francois and Catherine had been married for 44 years. She had had ten children, eight of whom were still living. Exilda and John had been married for 18 years. She had had eight children, three of whom were still living. (Could this be some kind of a mistaken reference to their son, Francois Xavier and his wife, Exilda? He was also a night watchman, and they had three children.
