(26 Mar 1921 - 30 Apr 2012)

Obituary, from Eagle-Star Marinette & Menominee online newspaper, 2 May 2012:

Samuel J. Komp, Sr.
Samuel J. Komp, Sr., 91, of Marinette, passed to his eternal reward on Monday, April 30, 2012, at Rennes Health Center-East in Peshtigo. The son of Joseph and Elizabeth Komp, he was born on March 26, 1921.
After graduating from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1939, Sam enrolled at St. Norbert College. However, like many young men of his era, his dreams of higher education and a professional career were put on hold by World War II. Sam enlisted in the United States Army and served four years, two of which were spent overseas on Ascension Island off the coast of Africa. Sam returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Maxine DeLeers, on July 28, 1945. He established a successful paint contracting business which he operated until 2008. Throughout his life he enjoyed following the athletic exploits of local teams, and some of his happiest times were spent hunting in the Crivitz area and later at his son John's cabin near Cedar River.
Sam is survived by five children: Sam, Jr. (Judith) of Peshtigo, Mary (Mike) Sullivan of Menominee, Nicolette (Greg) Hansen of Nevada City, Calif., John (Amy) of Cedarburg, Wis. and Tom (Mary) of Green Bay; as well as 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine and his only sister, Betty.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church in Menominee by the Reverend Michael Chenier. Visitation will be at the church from 9:45 a.m., Friday, until the time of service.
Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Marinette.
The family would like to thank the many friends who extended kindnesses in Sam's final year and especially thank Barb Walters and the entire staff at Rennes-East for the loving, compassionate care Sam received in his final months.
Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home is serving the family.
