Olive DESMARAIS

(May 1895 - 20 Oct 1978)

Olive and Oliver are a source of some confusion, and are mixed up in the 1900 and 1910 Censuses. In the 1900 Census, we find Olive, a daughter, age 6, born in Oct 1893, followed by Olivia (sic), a son, age 5, born May 1895. In the 1910 Census, they are reversed, with Oliver, a son, age 17, working as a doffer in a cotton mill; followed by Olive, a daughter, age 14. The 1930 Census reports Oliver to be 34, which seems to support the 1900 Census in showing him, the son, to be the youngest. However, the 1910 Census, which shows the older of the two to be the son, working in the cotton mill is also persuasive. Looking for more clarification.
