ABERDEEN - Richard Boyd Booth, 93, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle. He was born Aug. 8, 1913, to John Robert Booth and Gillian Boyd Booth in Aberdeen. He graduated from Aberdeen High School, the University of Mississippi, where he was a brother of the SAE Fraternity, and was a graduate of the University of Mississippi Law School. He was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen, where he was a practicing attorney from 1937 to 2004. He was a former Aberdeen and Amory City Attorney, former attorney and current Board Member of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Aberdeen, former attorney of Aberdeen Monroe County Hospital, former attorney for Aberdeen Municipal School District and attorney for Evans Memorial Library. He was a member of the American Bar Association and the Mississippi Bar Association. He was former co-owner and publisher of the Aberdeen Examiner and a charter member of Aberdeen Golf and Country Club. He was a member and served as an Elder and Trustee at Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church. He was a Mason and served in World War II in the 244th Field Artillery Battalion. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with the Rev. Sandra Sisson and Dr. John Staggs officiating. Burial will be in the Oddfellows Rest Cemetery. Survivors include a special friend, Virginia I. Rhea of Aberdeen; a number of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lillian Louise Booth and Laura Booth Taylor; and one brother, John Robert Booth Jr. Pallbearers will be Tim Ervin, Ralph Bradley, Barry Rhea, Walter Lann Jr., Neil Hillard and Howard Moon. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Hill Harrington and W.B. Watkins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church or your favorite charity.
