Obituary from Galena Daily Gazette, November 30, 1930: Mrs. Mary M. Smith passed away at her home on Franklin street at 5:45 o'clock this morning after suffering a stroke about two weeks ago. Mrs. Smith was born at Benton Dec. 12, 1845 but has resided in Galena for a great many years. Her husband Ira [Ara] E. Smith passed away 23 years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Theresa Herbsleb, Helena Smith, and a son Lawrence Smith, also a brother Lawrence Foht of Chicago. The body was removed to Uehren & Furlong's Chapel from which place the funeral will be held on Monday morning, eight-thirty from the Chapel to St. Michael's Catholic church at nine o'clock. Burial will be made in Greenwood cemetery beside the body of her husband.
