Susan Emily Stauffer
(30 Nov 1868 - 7 Sep 1937)
Loup Valley Queen, Callaway, Custer Co., Nebraska, September 16, 1937: Susan Emily Stauffer Miller was born November 30, 1868 at Toulon, Ill. and died September 7, 1937 at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 7 days. March 14, 1894 she was united in marriage to Henry H. Miller. To this union four children were born---three boys and one girl---Chester, Howard, Loyd and Emily. Two boys and the daughter are deceased. Sister Miller became a member of the Christian church in her girlhood days and has been an abiding and faithful member ever since, always holding Christ and His church in grasp of a great faith. The Stauffers moved to this part of the country from Garden City, Mo., in the spring of 1892 and settled in Custer county 22 miles north of Cozad. Mrs. Miller has lived in this community throughout all these years, and has always possessed a deep affection for her loved ones as well as for her friends and neighbors and she will be surely missed throughout all this section of the country. There remains to mourn her departing her loving and devoted husband, Henry Miller, one son, Chester and 5 grandchildren. Also one sister, Mabel Foster of Maywood, Neb. and one brother, Harold Stauffer of Cozad, Nebr., and many nephews and nieces and a host of loving friends. Thus passes a great spirit, a loving wife, true and devoted mother, a great pioneer.
"And some time when the day is ended, And the duties He gave me are done, I shall watch at life's western windows, For the gloom of the setting sun, I shall fall asleep in the twilight, As I never slept before, To dream of the beautiful city, Till I waken to dream no more, Thee will fall on my restless spirit, A hush oh so wondrously sweet, An I shall cross over the river, To rest at the Master's feet."
Funeral services were held from the home in Roten Valley last Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment in the Stop Table cemetery. The pallbearers were Herman Miller, Clay Small, Kenneth Stauffer, Walter Stauffer, Gilbert McIntosh and Lawrence Stinehagen.
