Alton Telegraph, Alton, Illinois, Friday, February 15, 2002, Front Page, Cols. 5 & 6 and Page 41, Col. 1: One-car crash claims life of Carlinville man. Driver was alone. Carlinville---A one-car accident claimed the life of a Carlinville man early Thursday morning on the Shipman Blacktop north of Plainview. Clinton Douglas Stout,24, of Carlinville was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m. Thursday at the scene by Macoupin County Chief Deputy Coroner Brad Targhetta. According to the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department Stout apparently lost control of his 1994 Pontiac Firebird about 1:40 a.m., leaving the road and hitting a culvert, which apparently caused the car to flip end over end. Macoupin County Deputy Sheriff Jeff Rhodes said that Stout was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. Rhodes said the preliminary report available did not list the direction Stout was traveling but did state that he was the sole occupant of the car. The accident is under investigation, and an inquest is planned, authorities said.

Employed at Plaza Truck Service in Carlinville as a mechanic at the time of his death, Stout was born in Jacksonville and was a 1996 graduate of Carlinville High School and of Lincoln Technical School in Indianapolis. Stout, who was not married, was the son of Cheri and Rick Frizzo of Chesterfield and Bruce Stout. Surviving are his maternal grandparents Jerry and Becky Mabus of Carlinville, paternal grandfather, Joe Stout of Palmyra; maternal great-grandparents, Glen and Ruby Mabus of Carlinville; and two stepbrothers, Mark Frizzo of Florida and Mike Frizzo of Carlinville. Contacted late Thursday, Becky Mabus said her grandson stayed at her home, but she otherwise declined to comment about his death.

Heinz Funeral Home in Carlinville is in charge of funeral arrangements. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Gary Harding will officiate at the funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Charity Baptist Church in Carlinville, where Stout was a member. Burial will be at Charity Cemetery near Carlinville.
