John A. La Feber

Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Corpus Christi, Texas, February 20, 1996, Page 10 C: John A. (Jack) La Feber, 80 passed away Sunday, February 18, 1996 in a local hospital. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mens' Club of St. Pius, Order of Alhambra Baza Caravan 78, Fleet Reserve Association and the Corpus Christi Stroke Club. Mr. La Feber was a Pearl Harbor survivor (USS Patapsco). He helped build bases on Japan and Guam during island Hopping Campaign and served in The Construction Battalion (Sea Bees). Mr. La Feber retired March 1, 1964 as a Chief Electrician Construction after thirty years of distinguished service. Mr. La Feber received a Letter of Commendation from the Department of the Navy upon retirement after forty-two years of federal service. His government career began as Seaman in the U S. Navy in 1933 and retired in 1955. He started Civil Service at Great Lakes as an Electrician and later promoted to Shop Planner, and finally to Supervisor. During his tenure, he received several outstanding performance ratings and numerous letter[s] of appreciation.

He was modest, gentle and kind, a family man. He served his country with dignity and integrity and at the last his only concern was for those he was leaving behind. His quiet courage in the face of death was his final gift to those who loved him. He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Jeanne La Feber of Corpus Christi; his step-son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Ann Delfino of Suisun City, California. granddaughter, Shannon Delfino of South San Francisco, California, nieces Patricia Galligan of Des Moines, Iowa, Nancy Gersham of Anchorage, Alaska. Visitation will begin Tuesday February 20, 1996 in the Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Chapel with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 5:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 196 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Graveside Services and burial with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, February 24, 1996 in Windridge Cemetery in Cary, Illinois at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Spohn Hospice, 600 Elizabeth, Corpus Christi, Texas 78404 or the American Cancer Society, 4101 S. Alameda, Corpus Christi, TX 78411.
