William Raymond "Kirk" Kirkpatrick

He was born in Dundee, Ill., on Jan. 24, 1926, the son of the late William Raymond Kirkpatrick and Altha Mae Taylor Kirkpatrick. He was married to Mary Margaret Powers in Chicago on Feb. 26, 1949, and he and his wife resided in Destin, Fla., for over 25 years. "Kirk" was a career officer, advancing from the ranks of enlisted to that of Chief Warrant Officer and serving in those capacities for 30 years. His career centered in Army Aviation where he served as a command pilot in both staff and advisory positions. His overseas assignments included Korea, Japan, Germany, Vietnam and Turkey. He survived six major battle campaigns in the two tours he served in Vietnam. As a master aviator and airborne soldier he was highly decorated, receiving the Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, three Distinguished Unit Citations, two Presidential Unit Citations, as well many other achievement awards. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Taylor and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick; son, Kevin Michael Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Sean Michael Kirkpatrick and Shaye Candice Bryson; sister, Ann Nancarrow; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Candice Kirkpatrick; and his wife, Mary Kirkpatrick.
