Posted at findagrave.com: Memorial services for Joe E. Powell, 86, were Monday, Feb. 26, at the DeSoto Baptist Church. Mr. Powell died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Milford, Texas, the son of Ess and Addie Mae (DeVore) Powell. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a scout in the infantry. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Hertgen Forest. He spent winters in Texas and was a member of the Penitas Baptist Church, Penitas, Texas. He was also a foster father to more than 20 children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Sears) Powell, in 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Powell, DeSoto, and Joy Grace, Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Mae Van Miranov, Enid, Okla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
