Harold Neil Kirkpatrick

Posted at findagrave.com: Fennimore Times 7/18/1923: Relatives here were shocked to learn of the death of Harold Kirkpatrick, son of Vance and Dolly Kirkpatrick, formerly living near Livingston and Fennimore. The young man was born near Livingston and at the time of his death was in San Francisco, Calif. He was about 23 years of age. His parents were living on a claim near Carson, SD and he was a nephew to Mrs Oscar Gerhardt and Homer Fry of this city. The remains are being brought to Livingston where burial will be made Saturday at 1 pm. Rev Kershaw officiating.

Harold Kirkpatrick, son of Vance and Dolly Kirkpatrick was born in the town of Clifton, Wis, April 5 1901 and died July 14 1923 after one month's service in the US navy.

His childhood was spent in the vicinity of Livingston. Some years later he lived in Bell Center and attended school at Gays Mills. After he finished school he taught for four years. Later he moved with his parents to North Dakota and from there he went to Colorado, where a month before his death he joined the US Navy. His premature death was a shock to relatives and friends, he being such a large robust fellow when they last saw him.

His remains were shipped to Livingston and from there borne by loving hands to its last resting place in the Kirkpatrick cemetery near Arthur. Services were conducted in the ME church at Livingston, Rev J R Lindsey officiating. The pallbearers were Donald Livingston, Bert Livingston, E E Skaliskey, Emery Anderson, Merl Knutson, Luther McCoy, all comrades of the last world war.

Harold was a young man of good habits and pleasing nature, a kind and devoted son, a loving brother and expressed a special loving regard for his mother. He was a member of the lodge of Maccabees of North Dakota.

Besides his loving father and mother, he leaves two brothers and one sister, Glenn of St Paul, Minn and Kenneth at home. Elva, Mrs Roy Dolphin of Mineral Point.

NOTE: Obituaries state he died in San Francisco on July 14, 1923. California death index shows he died in Solano Co*., California on July 15, 1923.

*Note entered by Carol J. Kirkpatrick on Jan. 27, 2019: Solano County, California contains Mare Island Naval Shipyard, an active Navy base until 1996.

Search of the San Francisco Examiner and San Francisco Chronicle from July 15, 1923 to July 21, 1923 did not find his obituary. Search was done by the San Francisco Public Library, February 19, 2019.
