Harold Edwin Kirkpatrick

From the Clipper-Herald, Lexington, Nebraska, December 15, 2004. Harold E. Kirkpatrick, 75, lifelong resident of Lexington died on Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. The Rev. Caroline Vickery will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. He was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Lexington to Harley and Jennie (Frates) Kirkpatrick. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Gary Boldt of Greeley, Color., and nancy and Gary Wright of Lexington. Other survivors include good friend, Dorothy Haugh of Lexington; five grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew and Kim Boldt; Amy and Eric Haaland; Jennifer and Scott Samway; Caron and Kara Wright and Travis Wright; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous friends. He grew up in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School in 1947. On May 25, 1946 Harold married Glenrose Hanson in Norton, Kan. Two daughters were born to this union, Kathy and Nancy. Harold was a large part of many businesses in the Lexington area. He was co-owner and manager of Kirkpatrick Sand and Gravel and past president of the National Sand and Gravel Association. He was also owner and manager of Kirk's Nebraskaland Restaurant and Service Center Oil and co-founder of Nebraskaland Tire. Not only did Harold have his own businesses, but he also helped many people get their businesses started as well. Harold also donated the land for Plum Creek Park and the land where the Dawson County Historical Museum sits. During his stockcar racing days Harold helped start the Dawson County Raceway. He also was coordinator for Plum Creek Days. Harold and his wife Glenrose were known for giving flowers to every new baby born in Lexington. Harold was very active in many organizations throughout Lexington including, Jaycees, Elks, Lions and was a member of the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years and was mayor of Lexington for many years. He was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Glenrose in 1983, and two half brothers Stewart and Russel. Memorials are kindly suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the First Presbyterian Church.
