(23 Feb 1928 - 18 Jun 1934)
The Beaumont Journal, Beaumont, Texas, Tuesday, June 19, 1934, Page 2, Col. 4: Canal Victim To Be Buried. Claude Clark Hill, Six-Year-Old Child of China Drowns Monday Afternoon. Funeral for Claude Clark Hill, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Hill of Nome, drowned about 5:20 p.m. Monday while swimming in the Neches canal near his home, will be held at the China cemetery at 5 p.m Tuesday. Rev. Loden of the Methodist church of Devers, will officiate. Interment will be under the direction of the Roberts Undertaking company.
The tragedy occurred when the child was in bathing with his brothers, Joseph, 11, and Elmer, 9. It was said he was paddling around in the water when he suddenly got in over his depth. Joseph rushed to his aid, but being unable to pull him to safety he ran for help. A Roberts ambulance was summoned and attendants with a trained nurse and life saving equipment worked over the body for more than an hour but could not revive the child. The tragedy in the Hill home Monday follows by only a few days an accident in which another son, Wilbur, fell from a truck and suffered a broken leg and shoulder.
Surviving the child besides the parents are five brothers: C. J., Wilber, Alvin, Joseph and Elmer, and three sisters, Mrs. Florence Tuney [Tumey] of Anahuac, and Misses Luch [Lucy] and Lillie [Lela] Hill.
