Myrtle Ruth Dilworth is the adopted daughter of Benjamin and Rebecca (Kirkpatrick) Dilworth. She was born 5 August 1923, and adopted on 5 September 1928. She married on 28 October 1945, Ethel Elbert (Jake) Varner. Birth name of Myrtle is not known.

SERVICES: 2 PM WEDNESDAY AT CROSSROADS BAPTIST CHURCH BURIAL: CROSSROADS CEMETERY VISIT: 4-8 PM TUESDAY AT OTT AND LEE IN BRANDON Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Dilworth Varner, 88, went to her Heavenly reward on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the Mississippi Care Center in Morton, Mississippi after an extended illness. Visitation is Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 4 8 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 2 pm Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Cross Roads Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Varner was born in Ocean Springs, MS to Woody and Clarentine Chase. Her date of birth was listed on the birth certificate as August 5, 1923, but her sister Dorinda later told her that she was born on August 4th, and said she should know because she was there. At the age of 5, Mrs. Varner went to Amory, Mississippi where she was reared and later adopted by Benjamin and Rebecca Dilworth. Mrs. Varner graduated from Amory High School, Amory, Mississippi and went to work for the phone company. She married E. E. (Jake) Varner, on October 28, 1945 in the Cross Roads Community. They made their home there until 1973 when they moved to town where Jake was the Chief of Police for the City of Pelahatchie. She had various jobs over the years, but her primary job was wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Amory Methodist Church until her marriage. She later joined Cross Roads Baptist Church and was a faithful member for 65 years. She had many years of devoted service during her years at Cross Roads. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, E. E. (Jake) Varner. She is survived by her son, E. E. (Butch) Varner and wife, Betty of Pelahatchie, MS, daughter, Kathy French of Clinton, MS, son, Gary Varner, Sr. of Pelahatchie, MS, and daughter, Gayle James and husband, Kenny of Laurel, MS; ten grand children; seventeen great-grandchildren; her sister, Maudie Varner of Pelahatchie, MS; and many loving nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church Building Fund, Pelahatchie, MS 39145.
