The Quincy Daily Herald, Quincy, Illinois, Wednesday, January 9, 1895, Page 2: S. L. Clarke, familiarly known as "Lay," died Thursday, Jan. 3, after a long illness with pneumonia. Mr. Clarke has resided in Camp Point about thirty-five years and was well known and respected throughout the surrounding country. He had been traveling salesman for a boot and shoe company for several years until last fall. He was 63 years of age. His, wife, two sons and one daughter survive him. The funeral took place from the Methodist Church Friday afternoon.
