Bowie Texas area newspaper, 30 January 1942: S. S. Wines Dies Monday. S. S. Wines, 74, long time resident of this section, died at his home Bowie, Monday afternoon, January 6 [26], following a sudden heart attack. The deceased was born in Missouri, February 19, 1868, and moved to this part of the country in 1892. He has made his home in Bowie for the past four years. Services were held at the First Presbyterian church Tuesday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. B. B. Breitenhirt officiating. Pallbearers were: T. H. McNatt, Bert Hipp, Virgil Greenhouse, and Bruce Musgrove. Burial was at Elwood cemetery with Burgess Funeral Home in charge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Etha Wines, four sons, Noah Wines, of Bovina, Charles, Apha [Alpha], and Harlan Wines of Memphis; four daughters, Mrs. May Badgwell, Mrs. Martha McNatt, Mrs. Ruth Musgrove, all of Bowie, and Mrs. Bertha McDaniel of Sterley, Texas, and 17 grand-children.
