George Milton Garner

The Ramona Sentinel, Ramona, California, January 17, 1998, Page B 4, Cols. 2-6: George M. Garner, a retired captain for the Los Angeles Fire Department, died Jan. 12, in Chula Vista. He was 77. Visitation was conducted Jan. 15 at Bonham Brothers and Lee Ramona Chapel. Funeral services were conducted on Jan. 16 at the First Congregational Church with the REv. Alexander S. Dreese officiating. Burial followed at Nuevo Memory Gardens in Ramona. Garner was born in Springdale, Ark., on Oct. 29, 1907, and had been employed by the Los Angeles Fire Department for 32 years. He belonged to the L. A. Fireman's Sportsman Club and enjoyed playing both handball and baseball. He had lived in Ramona for more than 30 years and had commuted to Los Angeles for the last 10 years of his employment there. He was a member of the Ramona Kiwanis Club, the Ramona Senior Citizens Group and the First Congregational Church. He enjoyed sports every much and also loved horse racing. Garner is survived by three sons: Douglas W. Garner of Ramona, Richard L. Garner of Woodland Hills; and Jerry Garner of Ramona; a daughter, Sharon L. Garner of Portland, Ore.; five step-daughters; 35 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Donations may be made in his memory to the Los Angeles Fire Department Relief Association (Widow and Orphans Fund), 2900 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, Calif. 90026. Arrangements were under the direction of Bonham Brothers and Lee Mortuary.

Call to San Diego Library Main location on Jan. 6, 2017; no Ramona Sentinel.Ordered microfilm of The Ramona Sentinel from the California State Library. On March 1, 2017 our library in Van Buren received the microfilm. A search located Mr. Garner's obituary in the January 17, 1998 issue.
