Mrs. Minnie Scifers, 85, a resident of Genoa for 45 years, collapsed and died on the street at Genoa about noon Saturday, April 15. Her death was apparently due to a heart attack. She had not been known to have been ill before the fatal seizure. Mrs. Minnie May Cash Scifers was born May 4, 1881 in Missouri, being one of a family of 13 children. A few years later they bought the Genoa hotel where she continued to serve meals and rent rooms. At that time there was a barber shop and a pool hall in the basement. This operation was continued until the death of Mr. Garner. Mrs. Garner was married to John L. Scifers of Arriba April 2, 1945. Mr. Scifers died Oct. 27, 1950. Mrs. Scifers moved to her present home several years ago, where she operated an apartment house until the time of her death. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church.
