Obituary from Rogue Valley Genealogical Society: W. Jean Merwin. The funeral for W. Jean Merwin will be at 2 p.m. today at Hull Hull Chapel in Grants Pass. Private interment will follow in Granite hill Cemetery, Grants Pass. Mrs. Merwin, 75, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (April 6, 1997) at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gold Hill Youth and Community Center, 883 Fourth Ave., Gold Hill, Or 97525. She was born Winifred Jean Brisco on Jan. 10, 1922, in Waterloo, Iowa. After high school she was a leather craftsman. On Sept. 25, 1942, at Long Beach, Calif., she married Ralph Merwin, who survives. They were pastors with Mrs. Merwin providing the music since she played the piano, accordion and organ. They appeared in such locations as Flagstaff, Ariz., Riverside, Jamestown, and Canoga Park, Calif., and Gold Hill, where they retired. She co-produced Home Town Jamboree in Rogue River and Grants pass for seven years. Mrs. Merwin served on the Rogue River Chamber of Commerce Rooster Crow Committee. In 1992 she produced 17 musical groups for the Rooster Crow. She was Gold Hill Youth and Community Center treasurer; organist at Foot Creek Chapel; and honorary grandma at Charlene's Lov' Care Day Care Center. Mrs. Merwin also taught organ. She enjoyed crocheting blankets, bookmarks and doilies. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Charlene Bowen, Grants Pass; three sons, Don, Simi Valley, Calif., James, Everett, Wash., and David, Yucaipa, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
