Charles Munson

Charles was born 24 August 1846 in Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois, the son of Daniel and Rosanna (Costine) Munson. Grandparents were Theodore and Lydia (Filbroock) Munson of Massachusetts who located in Schuyler County, Illinois, about 1831.

Charles and Catherine farmed in Industry Township, McDonough County, Illinois. Charles Munson was brought up on a farm and obtained his education by attending the district school during the winter seasons. He served ten months in the Second Illinois Calvary during the Civil War. He was a Republican.

There were two children born of the marriage.

From the start he declined rapidly and it was foreseen that he could not survive long.
Funeral services from the home of his brother, George Munson, South Lafayette street, Monday morning commencing at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. T. Rodgers, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Interment in the Camp Creek Cemetery. Charles Munson, was the eldest son of Daniel and Rosanna (Costine) Munson (deceased), and was born in Rushville, Aug. 24, 1846. He was brought up on a farm and obtained his education in the district schools. In 1853, Mr. Munson moved to this county settling near Camp Creek, where he farmed for a number of years. He prospered and at the time of his death had acquired several hundred acres of land. On Sept. 27, 1872, he was united in marriage to Anna Kirkpatrick, who survives. Two children were born to them, one of who, George Herbert died in infancy, the other, Roscoe, of near Industry, survives. Deceased was a man well liked and he numbered his friends by the scores. In politics he was a Republican and he was always loyal to his party. After many years of hard work on the farm he retired, moving to Macomb, in 1893, where he had since resided. Mr. Munson was a veteran serving for a ten months in the Illinois Cavalry. (Civil War). Besides the wife and son, he leaves to mourn his death, one brother, Geo. Munson, Macomb, and two sisters, Anna Murfin, Good Hope, and Dora E. Legere, Hill City, Kan., and other relatives and friends.
