John Ramsey Brown

Obituary from Topeka Daily Capital, March 27, 1976 page 13. John Ramsey Brown, 72, 106 Western, died Thursday in a Topeka hospital. He was born August 25, 1903, at Chillocothe, Mo. He had been a resident of Topeka for 35 years. From 1947 until his retirement in 1973, Mr. Brown was production manager at the Topeka Foundry and Iron Works. During World War II, he was a designer engineer in Evanston, Ill., where he helped in the production of SST ships. Mr. Brown was a member of the Antique Auto Club of America and the Horseless Carriage Club of America. He was married to Lyllis Wilkinson on Aug. 30, 1926. She survives at the home. Other survivors include two sons, Marshall Brown, Beaumont, Tex., Kirk Brown of Topeka; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Collins, Killington, Vt., Mrs. Carol Sanchez, Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother Francis Brown, Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Teed, Danville, Calif., Mrs. Virginia Lander, Rosewell, N. M., and four grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mount Hope Chapel with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Bown will lie in state until noon Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
