Times Record Online. Copied from Find-A-Grave. Elizabeth Wood Leiter of San Angelo, Texas, formerly of Clarksville, went to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2010. She was three weeks shy of her 99th birthday. Services will be held at Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, with visitation starting at 1 p.m. and the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. The Rev. David Hanshaw will be presiding. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth was born to Joe Adkins and Sydney Porter Adkins on Feb. 18, 1911, in Harmony. She was the youngest of five children. She met and married Lonnie Wood in 1928. Together they had four children, John (J.L.), Betty Sue, Bobby Joe and Billy Don. After Lonnie's death, Elizabeth moved her family to Clarksville and there she began working at the Clarksville Regional Hospital as a nurse's aide. In 1956, she married Kim Leiter. It was at this time she began working for different doctors in town and eventually became a nurse at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, where she retired at the age of 77, after 22 years of service. Elizabeth was an active member at the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville for more than 40 years. In 1995, at the age of 85, she moved to San Angelo and joined Glen Meadows Baptist Church. She was very active well into her 90s. Liz was preceded in death by her parents; each of her husbands; her son, J.L. Wood; her daughter, Betty Sue Mack; her grand-daughter, Mary Jane Pitts; her sisters, Bernice Hunt and Gladys Miracle and her brothers, Allen Adkins and Lee Adkins. Survivors include her sons, Bobby Joe and wife Sondra Wood and Billy Don and wife Pat Wood; her grandchildren, Mike and wife Alice Wood, Karen and husband Tony Varnell, Carol Peel, Kenny and wife Denise Mack; her great-grandchildren, Christina Butler, Jessica and Megan Varnell, Jenny, Jeff, Justin and Jessica Mack, Barry Peel, Christy Caldwell and John and David Pitts. She is also survived by seven great-great-grandchildren.
