Arkansas Gazette, Little Rock, Friday, January 14, 1949, Page 5, Col. 4: Retired Farmer Dies Of Shotgun Wound. Clarksville, Jan. 12---Robert Harris, 78, retired farmer of the Harrisville community, died of shotgun woods at his home today. Dr. G. R. Siegel, Johnson county coroner, said Harris shot himself. Harris had been in ill health for several years and had been confined to a wheel chair the last few months. He was chairman of the John county election Commission 18, years. Assisting Dr. Siegel in the investigation were Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Wiley Bean and Deputy Sheriff Ethel Blackard. Surviving Harris are his wife, Mrs. Belle Harris; a daughter, Mrs. Orville Patterson of Harrisville; two sisters, Mrs. R. E. Leeds of Mount Vernon and Mrs. Lula King of Clarksville, and a brother, Vernon Harris of Clarksville.
