Fairfield Jefferson County Republican, Fairfield, Iowa, Tuesday, May 24, 1898, Page 4, Col. 4: John Shelley, a well known stock buyer and trader, died at his daughter's in Decatur county a few days ago. He was 82 years old and had resided in this county for about sixty years and was known probably by more people in the county than any other man. He was a trader but never took advantage of any man's ignorance, if he confessed his ignorance as a good judge of stock. He had many good traits.

Mr. Shelley was a resident of this county for about sixty years and left here only last year. He was a stock buyer and well known by the people far and near. He was eighty-tow years old. Mrs. Ella Moore of this city, is a daughter.
